A Death in the Family

Sadly, MTV Tr3s has killed Indie 101, their show dedicated to showcasing up and coming indie, alternative talent. Hopefully, MTV Tr3s will find another way to represent alternative music, in the mean time check out Los Burbanks on Indie 101. Indie 101: you will be missed.

Tropi(video)love

DJ Bitman is debuting his newest video for "Tropilove" on MTV Tr3s week. The video takes you on a Caribbean vacation by land and by sea. With images of coral reefs, pink palm trees, and bikini clad women bouncing around the screen, it's the perfect answers to days were it's 17 degrees and snowing (like today). The song itself epitomizes island rhythm and is great to mellow out to, so enjoy.

Soft Spot: "De Que Sirve"

"De Que Sirve" is an infectious, pop rock hit with saccharin sweet vocals and melody that work its way into your mind until your singing along with the track. It barely counts as Latin Alternative, but in my mind, they have LA street cred. Let's face it - if Belanova's "Baila Mi Corazon" is considered Alternative, everyone's got a fair shot. Plus, they're no where near as popular as Mexi-Pop sensation RBD so they're still safe. And bands who play their own instruments will always have an edge over run of the mill, generic, pop acts. To me, they're a mix between Paramore and BBmak, and despite what hardcores have to say - "De Que Sirve" is still cool and will continue to play on my iPod for days to come.

Noteworthy: "Eres Para Mi"

Julieta Venegas is the Alicia Keys of Latin Alternative music. But instead of hot lyrics laced over a piano melody, add in an accordion, keyboards, guitar, and a sexy Latin groove. Not only is Julieta beautiful like Alicia, ever since "Me Voy" first hit the air waves, she's taken the music world by storm. With her hip-hop infused single, "Eres Para Mi," featuring a rapping Julieta, hit makers like Daddy Yankee took notice (see below). "Eres Para Mi" is a great tune to jam out to, so disfrutala.

A day in the life of The Source

That's pretty much a short summary of how my life has been since February 5th, my last post. Between frigid, snow-filled Syracuse weather, and endless amounts of school work I've been going bananas. I apologize for keeping you all outside the Latin Alternative loop, but now things seem to be cooling down a bit for the source, so let's get back to what's hot and fresh on the LA scene.
